| Need for strong authentication for both intranet and Internet applications |
|
In logical access applications, authentication is the process by which a user’s identity is verified by a computer system. This is to ensure that the right information and services are made available to authorized users. If information security is an enterprise priority, then traditional password protection by itself is no longer adequate for the task. The use of a password by itself is referred to as single-factor security. Strong authentication refers to 2-factor or 3-factor security when verifying one’s identity. Thus, a password (something you know) should be augmented with something you have (e.g., a smart token), or something you are (e.g., biometrics). ii2P can support strong authentication with its MyLOK™ product which is smart chip based; for customers who wish to support biometrics, ii2p can maintain a biometric template for any biometric modality on the smart chip. In addition to strong authentication, the MyLOK™ single sign-on solution not only support intranet applications, but also Internet and desktop applications. This smart chip-based solution stores and safeguards a users’ multiple credentials (e.g, IDs and passwords) and auto populates those credentials to selected sites. |
