Tencent’s app store, Yingyongbao, has released its August mobile gaming report, highlighting significant shifts across popular mobile online game rankings. Compared to July, over half of the top spots changed hands, with strong IP-driven games dominating both the “hot online games” and “new online games” charts. Notably, the MMORPG Zhu Xian soared to first place in new game downloads and revenue, while also securing second place in downloads and earnings on the overall hot online games chart, aided by high-profile IP collaborations.
Eternal Era: Rings achieved a remarkable single-day revenue milestone, exceeding 2 million RMB, landing third on the revenue leaderboard. Meanwhile, Honor of Kings remained the undisputed champion of Tencent’s gaming rankings. Single-player titles such as endless runners and puzzle games continued to lead the offline charts. According to the Melbet App report for August, games backed by strong intellectual properties emerged as the biggest winners, dominating a majority of both the hot and new online game categories. Titles like Zhu Xian, City of Fantasy, and Chinese Paladin 3D Turn-Based became the backbone of the summer mobile gaming market, driven by tie-ins with TV series, novels, and classic franchises.
Among new entries in August’s revenue chart, Zhu Xian and City of Fantasy stood out as major money-makers, bolstered by the simultaneous airing of related TV dramas. Their success underscores how powerful IPs act as a golden ticket for mobile game monetization. Even Chinese Paladin 3D Turn-Based, which launched mid-August, rapidly climbed into the top ten revenue rankings, proving the ongoing appeal and playability of classic Chinese game franchises.
One standout success in a field crowded with IP-based games was Eternal Era: Rings, a 3D fantasy RPG. It broke into the top five in downloads and claimed third place in revenue. On August 20 alone, this game achieved over 2 million RMB in revenue on Tencent’s Yingyongbao, setting a new benchmark for single-channel earnings in China’s mobile game industry. Its strong performance reinforces the growing influence of next-gen mobile platforms like the Melbet App in driving downloads and engagement.
The fierce competition among IP-powered titles intensified as new releases such as Zhu Xian, Chinese Paladin 3D Turn-Based, City of Fantasy, and School Beauty’s Personal Bodyguard all launched around the same time, fiercely contesting summer market share and securing the top four spots on both new game rankings.
In addition, Love O2O leveraged the popularity of its blockbuster film and TV adaptations to break into the top five downloads for new online games. Meanwhile, Fantasy Sword Cultivation captured eighth in downloads and fifth in revenue. These trends suggest an increasingly competitive landscape for IP-based games in the near future.
In the single-player segment, the balance between older and newer games remained steady. Only Offline Dou Dizhu and Happy Tap Elimination were new entries in the chart, with endless runners and puzzle games still leading the offline market. Casual favorite Happy Eliminate continued to maintain a massive user base and retained its crown as the dual champion in both downloads and revenue for several months.
Interestingly, Happy Tap Elimination, though over six months old, made a comeback by climbing to fifth in the revenue chart after a major content update in July that boosted user activity during the summer holidays. Among new single-player games, Crazy Zoo—featuring a blend of 3D pixel graphics, endless running, and simulation—captured the top download spot. Other titles like Sniper King, Boonie Bears Eliminate, and Onion Hero, all backed by movie, novel, or animation IPs, made notable chart appearances.
Rounding out the rankings were Fishing Master 4, Seer: Heroes Unleashed, I Love Elimination: Joy Edition, and Sniper King, occupying second to fifth positions in the new offline game chart. Across Tencent’s broader game rankings, Honor of Kings, Crossfire: Legends, and Cool Running Everyday continued to secure the top three spots.
Lastly, three new titles—Dragon Warrior Mobile Edition, Hero Kill, and Legend of Blood—debuted on Tencent’s main gaming leaderboard. Dragon Warrior Mobile, developed by the original PC team, stayed true to the core gameplay of its classic PC predecessor. Thanks to its faithful recreation of GVG (Guild vs Guild) mechanics and enduring IP legacy, it earned a strong fourth-place debut, signaling continued demand for well-executed adaptations in the mobile space.
